---- Art Group taps Future Masters in Southwest Florida----
Portrait and Figure Painters Society of SW Florida, Inc. (PFPS)
It’s the goal of the ‘Portrait and Figure Painters Society of SW Florida Inc.‘or ‘PFPS’ to reach talented youth and adults to provide a creative outlet to find those rare and exquisite skills.
Founded in 2007 to foster classic and contemporary painting in various forms, the group’s founder and president, Renate M Reuter, said traditional art is enjoying revival among southwest Florida artists, but many with hidden talents lack exposure and promotion due to funding issues and other diversions.
.
It is anticipated that the group will receive its nonprofit status in the coming year. Reuter expects that scholarships and other learning tools will become available to gifted students and artists. Reuter, a former corporate buyer, a publicist, and artist living in Ft. Myers, where her group is based hopes to find these people like a ‘talent search.’
Classicism is mostly defined by the Renaissance era, a period in the 16th and 17th centuries when painting, sculpture and other art forms took on a refined and structural orderliness. The use of geometry and grids, rigorous discipline and the formation of schools of art and music was found mostly in the Italian genre. Michelangelo’s works in oil and sculpture, for example, are as exquisitely detailed and emancipating today as they were then.
Although some schools and groups focus on classic arts, the style has largely been relegated to museums and private collections, where patrons stand before these artistic shrines in appreciative awe. In order to revive interest and provide an avenue for aspiring and cross-generational local artists, the Portrait and Figure Painters Society of SW Florida offers instructive “art-talk” meetings, forums, workshops, exhibitions, promotions and other outlets for those practicing various forms of traditional art. The group recently hosted a well-attended and highly educational oil and/or chalk portrait workshop held by Sarasota Master Realist Charlie Miano. Renowned Master Artists Douglas Flynt and Greg Biolchini are consulting honorary members of PFPS’s organizational board.
In 2009, the art group has scheduled a Jan. 16, 'Editorial Election 2008 History’ drawing/ and PowerPoint show (adults and youth) with acclaimed News-Press cartoonist Doug MacGregor (drawing is the foundation of great art.)
Upcoming Workshops:
- Oil portrait workshops are scheduled for next February and March, featuring Ft. Myers artist and Master Greg Biolchini at his Lake Front Studio.
- In April we have planned a 3-day Portrait & Figure Workshop with Neil Walling place t/b/d
- A Red Chalk Portrait Drawing Workshop - a Renaissance Technique with Master Charles Miano in April, 2009. Place t/b/d
.
Red Chalk Drawing by Charles Miano
The group’s mission is sure to accelerate with new awareness and programs, Reuter said.
Traditional art “has an important place in southwest Florida,” she said.
“We’re very excited about the future.”

Wishful Thinking
- 'It would be great if we had a LARGE PLACE art establishment for all various arts, in various styles, medium, and to also include PFPS (as in NYC, Sarasota) . It will make Ft. Myers known also for its arts and culture. It certainly would attract all types of artists and include the traditional and contemporary arts and bring revenue to the city.
- Don’t forget there are many art styles and media to consider – to also name us - the Portrait and Figure Painters Society of SW Florida, Inc.
Art Shows are presently held at the Edison Restaurant, near the Edison Estate on McGregor Blvd. on every 4th Thursday of each month, |

To All Our PSA and PFPS Members, Artists, Teachers and Students, please note below message from Kerry Vosler, Ambassador of the Portrait Society of America, which is very deep and reminds us all that despite of all bad times ‘ART WILL SURVIVE’ and will continue to educate us and our children (R. Subject: Message fromFlorida Ambassador PSofA
Dear Florida Members of the Portrait Society of America:
As the Holidays come and go and the New Year begins I hope you will take time to reflect on how far you have come in your personal careers.
These are not the first tough times artists have struggled through. All through history there have been artists who faced deplorable circumstances. The Russian Realists were highly disciplined artists who went through periods of political harassment. In 1941 when the Nazis invaded Russia, Stalin's government evacuated the most revered artists and students from the Surikov, to safety in Samarkand, Uzbekistan. The train ride was hard enough but when they arrived they nearly starved to death and some actually did die. They persisted and some of the most beautiful works of art were created in the most severe circumstances.
People will conserve during times likes these. But they are still thinking about commissioning that portrait or purchasing another work of art for their personal collection. I urge you continue to paint and be prepared for the upswing. Even in a global recession we can take time to improve and strengthen our vision for our paintings.
Kerry Vosler

Charlie Miano's 3-Day Portrait Workshop in Ft. Myers
11-20 through 11-22
Thank you for putting together such a good workshop. The facility was first rate, as were the participants. Charlie Miano made 3 full days of instruction, demonstration and practice move so quickly, that it was hard to realize how much ground we had covered in what turned out to be ONLY 3 days! I was impressed at the organization it took to pull it all together, not only from the instructional standpoint, but the logistics of finding space, locating students, and feeding us all so well.
Everything about the workshop was truly professional, and should make you proud of your efforts.

Everything seems to be going very well - and what a perfect find Rick and Mimi were. Charlie seemed quite pleased - Rick has great facial structure."
