Commissioned Oil Portrait of FGCU's Dr. Richard Pegnetter - Greg Biolchini and his Painting

08/09/09

E-mail from Greg Biolchini today..

Hi Renate,

This letter is to thank you, once again, for all of your generous help over the past couple of years.  To mention a few, this includes giving me the FGCU portrait commission of Dr. Pegnetter, the founding Dean of the new business college on the University campus.  I also very much appreciate your suggesting palette knife workshops.  My palette knife workshop was a complete success.  Everyone loved it, including people you encouraged to attend the workshop.  You are always willing to promote, through your art group, me and other artists and art groups.  Much appreciated.

Respectfully yours, Greg Biolchini.

Workshop with Steven Assael

PFPS is planning to have one of the most renowned –national and international- portrait figure artists, Steven Assael, to give a 3 day or 5 day educational workshop in our areas in March 2010. (We sent previously e-mails to our artists that are on our distribution listings regarding four different popular artists.  This year Steven was the winner. He also replied promptly.)

Master Steven Assael said he would do it for us (I still can’t believe it!) and that March would be a good month. I started the necessary ‘footwork’ and I’ll see to involve some portrait and figure painters of other art leagues, e.g. Naples, Bonita, Alliance, etc.

To be informed you may Google Steven Assael's website for additional information. His work, name, and experience is internationally known.

Message from Douglas Flynt regarding Steven Assael -

Hi Renate,

I have been meaning to get back to you sooner--however I have been swamped with a number of events and projects the last week.

Congratulations on getting Steven Assael.  I had him as an instructor while I was studying at the New York Academy--his bravado in paint handling is very impressive as are his drawing skills.

I tried to reach you by phone this afternoon but was unable to catch you.  I am going to be hard to reach this following week as the projects and obligations are still quite heavy.

If there are any specific questions that you would like my input feel free to let me know via e-mail or phone and I will try to respond as soon as I can.

Best of luck as you go forward with setting things up for Steven's workshop.

Regards,

Douglas

---- Art Group taps Future Masters in Southwest Florida----

Portrait and Figure Painters Society of SW Florida, Inc. (PFPS)

It’s the goal of the ‘Portrait and Figure Painters Society of SW Florida Inc.‘or ‘PFPS’ to reach talented youth and adults to provide a creative outlet to find those rare and exquisite skills. Founded in 2007 to foster classic and contemporary painting in various forms, the group’s founder and president, Renate M Reuter, said traditional art is enjoying revival among southwest Florida artists, but many with hidden talents lack exposure and promotion due to funding issues and other diversions.

.

It is anticipated that the group will receive its nonprofit status this year. Reuter expects that scholarships and other learning tools will become available to gifted students and artists. Reuter, a former corporate buyer, a publicist, and artist living in Ft. Myers, where her group is based hopes to find these people like a ‘talent search.’

Classicism is mostly defined by the Renaissance era, a period in the 16th and 17th centuries when painting, sculpture and other art forms took on a refined and structural orderliness. The use of geometry and grids, rigorous discipline and the formation of schools of art and music was found mostly in the Italian genre. Michelangelo’s works in oil and sculpture, for example, are as exquisitely detailed and emancipating today as they were then.

Although some schools and groups focus on classic arts, the style has largely been relegated to museums and private collections, where patrons stand before these artistic shrines in appreciative awe. In order to revive interest and provide an avenue for aspiring and cross-generational local artists, the Portrait and Figure Painters Society of SW Florida offers instructive “art-talk” meetings, forums, workshops, exhibitions, promotions and other outlets for those practicing various forms of traditional art. The group recently hosted a well-attended and highly educational oil and/or chalk portrait workshop held by Sarasota Master Realist Charlie Miano. Renowned Master Artists Douglas Flynt and Master Greg Biolchini are consulting honorary members of PFPS’s organizational board.

The group’s mission is sure to accelerate with new awareness and programs, Reuter said. Traditional art “has an important place in southwest Florida,” she said.

“We’re very excited about the future.”

Wishful Thinking

  • Trying to find sponsor or donor for the Portrait and Figure Painters Society of SW Florida, Inc. to obtain its own website since the 'non-profit' status was received 4-17-08. Sponsor will have many benefit for it.
  • 'It would be great if we had a LARGE PLACE art establishment for all various arts, in various styles, medium, and to also include PFPS (as in NYC, Sarasota) . It will help make Ft. Myers known also for its arts and culture. It certainly would help attract all types of artists and to include the traditional/contemporary arts and bring revenue to the city.
  • To receive new grant to further all intended purpose this organizaiton was created for.

Charlie Miano's 3-Day Portrait Workshop in Ft. Myers

11-20 through 11-22

Thank you for putting together such a good workshop. The facility was first rate, as were the participants. Charlie Miano made 3 full days of instruction, demonstration and practice move so quickly, that it was hard to realize how much ground we had covered in what turned out to be ONLY 3 days! I was impressed at the organization it took to pull it all together, not only from the instructional standpoint, but the logistics of finding space, locating students, and feeding us all so well.
Everything about the workshop was truly professional, and should make

you proud of your efforts.  Daphne Hammond

Everything seems to be going very well - and what a perfect find Rick and Mimi were. Charlie seemed quite pleased - Rick has great facial structure."

'Art Talk' with Leoma Lovegrove - Meeting and Doug MacGregor on January 16th '09

' Slide Show' with Doug MacGregor - Minutes and Thank You.

I like to express my gratitude and thank all those who attended above ‘event’ and let you know how important it was for me that you came despite the trip.

We also like to thank those who brought food  for the

Harry Chapin Food bankto help the needy.

Our guest speakers/presenters and well-known artists- Leoma Lovegrove and Doug MacGregor - were ‘SUPERB.’ They both are great people, excellent artists and good speakers. We all enjoyed them.  Both make a great impact on our communities and are known for their kindness. We need more people in the communities like them who gave their time, care and make things better.

We were not presented by the media;  therfore we only had 2 students, 1 father,       2  teachers, 3 members, 2 independent artists, and Sunshine, Bill, and me.

I surely had hoped more teachers and students would have taken advantage of that opportunity since the schools had been dismissed early.  Friday the 16th pm was the only date Doug MacGregor was able to give us.
